French Empire Black Marble Portico Clock C1820

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Overton Clocks of Chesterfield ltd

Description

A French Empire Black Marble Portico Clock c1810 with a two train movement striking the half hours on a silvered bell.
The fully restored movement has a silk suspension holding the delicately cast and gilt pendulum with an "angel" playing a harp pendulum bob.
This movement is a handmade clock and still has the original makers file marks and scratches on the plates and should not be confused with the mass produced spring suspension french clocks of the late 1800s. The wheel and pinions are delicately made in the French style and the clock has a very pleasing stance with regard to proportions and elegance.
