A truly magnificent three bottle decanter case made from silverplate and fully marked for the Sheffield silversmith''s, Philip Ashberry & Sons, dating to c. 1870.
The silver case is exquisite beautifully reticulated or pierced with cut-out panels to showcase the beautiful cut crystal decanters inside. Either side of the case has a grand Ram''s head handle, the top of the lid has a cast Grapevine finial; the front has a lock complete with a working key.
The front has a regal and decorative engraved monogram of the original owner, this would have belonged to a very wealthy family, perhaps a wedding gift.
About as good as they get and and a rare find in excellent condition. The box measures 11 3/4'' x 4 3/4'' x 11 3/4'' tall. Each decanter measures 3'' x 2 3/4'' x 8 1/4'' tall.
