Handsome Victorian Brass Inkstand - Double Cut Glass Inkwells

Description

An extremely handsome and unusual desk set made from heavy solid cast brass which is signed on the underside incorporated into the mark, which I am unable to make out. The piece does appear English to me, but it could be French too.

The decoration is exquisite with the sides being shaped into trays, the two long sides acting as pen trays for the dip pen; the side trays perfect for storing other accessories such as wax, wax seals or nibs.

The stand is unusual with the attractive cast carrying handle, which is one of the reasons I was attracted to this example.

The inkwells are clearly original and amazingly in totally undamaged condition with the molded plugs made to slot into the two recessed holders in the stand giving the inkwells good stability while being carried. It would be a perfect piece in the centre of a partner's desk. The glass is further enhanced with groups of horizontal cuts to the sides.

Wonderful condition measuring 10 1/4" x 5 3/4" x 7" tall to top of handle.
