Antique Furniture Direct has dated this piece to the 1920s.
The sides and back are also carved. To the sides are two carved hand handles along with its original fancy brass latch to the lid. Inside, the chest is clean and is lined with camphor wood with its distinctive aroma and has a removable tray. This is a really good example with some good deep detailed carving and a good colour. Would make a great blanket chest, storage box or could be used as a decorative coffee table or TV stand.
