In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
The box is complete with both of its original glass inkwells. The tops, like most of the fittings, are white metal which I believe to be silver. The quality is certainly good enough for them to be silver but they are not hallmarked so I cannot say for certain. There is a secret compartment with two drawers hidden below the leather that springs open by lifting the piece of wood next to the pen tray. The box also comes with its original working key.

The slope is superb quality and is in good condition for its age. It has been lightly cleaned and polished and it displays very well inside and out. There are some minor chips and shrinkage splits around the exterior of the box but nothing major that detracts from the overall appearance (see photos). The leather surface is in excellent condition and there are no damages to the inkwells.
The best description comes from the photos so please look at them all carefully and if you have any questions please ask.
