A fabulous late Victorian playing card box made from solid sterling silver fully hallmarked for the highly collectable Chester assay office and the year 1899; the makers initials are also present for the silversmith, Stokes and Ireland.

This simple and stylish box is perfect for any interior from traditional to contemporary and made from a good gauge of silver. The hinged lid clips in place nicely and once opened reveals a gilded interior.

The two packs of playing cards are complete having gilded edges and are in really lovely condition, clearly having rarely been used. They were manufactured in the US by the New York Consolidated Card Company and also signed by the London retailer, Mudie and Sons.

Not a full size box and cards, each card measuring 2 7/8" x 2"; the box measuring 2 1/8" wide x 1 3/8" deep x 3" tall.
