Small Oak Writing Desk & Chair by Lamb of Manchester C.1870.

19th century
Description

Super quality little writing table and chair by the celebrated English cabinet makers Lamb of Manchester c.1870. Ingenious design desk with an inkstand and pen tray hidden below a folding lid with flush fitting brass handle so as not to clutter the work space. Retaining the original tooled leather skiver and with a single oak lined drawer below, flanked with swept supports with a carved detail also repeated on the rear. Raised on particularly good turned reeded and fluted legs with the original castors by Cope & Collinson. Clearly stamped Lamb Manchester on the top of the drawer front. Obvious wear to the leather which could be replaced if preferred. Otherwise excellent condition.

Sold together with a matching oak chair, also by Lamb. With an unusual H shaped back rest between turned and fluted stiles with round pommel tops. Seat freshly upholstered in a grey chenile, raised on turned and fluted legs with brown pot castors. Stamped on the underside.

Dimensions: width 42", depth 20", height 28".

Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
