Description

Superb early 19th.c. Northern European painted chest, probably German or Scandinavian c.1830. In solid pine with moulded edge to the lid, shaped base moulding and two small fitted compartments inside the box. In remarkable condition, retaining the original paintwork designed to look like symmetrically arranged veneers with beautiful decorative floral panels painted on the lid and sides. Front features two fine images of Napoleonic era cavalrymen on horseback. Good details to their uniforms, with plumed hats and curved sabres. In excellent condition with original iron hinges, lock and key.
