An impressive and fine-looking late 19th century TERRACOTTA FIGURE by the famous Goldscheider factory of Austria. This large figure depicts a young peasant girl holding a flagon in her left hand, her right hand on her hip. She wears a headscarf and country clothes and stands 26ins (67cms) high. Impressed Goldscheider mark and model number 4578.

***The factory was founded by Frederick Goldscheider in 1885 and soon became the leading terracotta, faience and bronze manufactory in Austria. Famous for creating masterpieces of historical revivalism, the family emigrated to America and Britain in 1938.
