Victorian Leather Chesterfield

19th century
Description

Victorian leather chesterfield

Victorian leather chesterfield by Wylie & Lochhead of Glasgow

This Victorian leather chesterfield was made in the famous workshops of Wylie & Lochhead in Glasgow. Once made it would have been retailed in one of their showrooms in London, Glasgow, or Manchester.

Robert Wylie and William Lochhead formed the company in 1829, employing the best craftsmen to make their furniture, that soon was renowned for the fine design and quality.

EA Taylor , George Logan and John Ednie are often attributed to have designed many of their pieces.

There is little to say about this Victorian leather chesterfield as your eyes will tell the story.

We have reupholstered and covered this in leather. All done in the traditional manner hand stitching the horsehair into place. It is also having a deep buttoned back.

The leather was fitted in a raw state before being hand dyed and then finished in our antique ageing process, by our craftsmen who has over 40 years’ experience.

The chesterfield stands on superb turned and carved front legs and sweeping back legs (one of the back legs is stamped by the makers) All the legs have brass rolling castors.

Above the front legs the frame sweeps up with a wonderful shaped arm that flows into the back.

208.5cms widest point (82ins)

90cms deep (351/2ins)

81.5cms high (32ins)

All dimensions are approximate
