Charming Japanese Boxwood Netsuke Playful Hares -tomotada

As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this delightful Edo Period 1615-1868 Boxwood Netsuke , circa 1840 , depicting Hares at play , the artist has carved in fine detail a couple of Hares , one curled up on his side with his companion sat aside and pinning him down in a playful fashion , their entwined legs form a natural Himotoshi to the underside, the Netsuke has a fine natural patination revealed beneath the original dark staining by decades of handling, the artist has signed the Netsuke in an oblong cartouche , the abbreviated signature translates to an artist referred to as Yanagawa Tomotada , an early 19th century Netsuke artist , a most charming Netsuke and a great addition to your Japanese works of art or Netsuke collection .
