French Bronze Sculpture of a Girl

Description

JEAN GARNIER: a charming late 19th century French BRONZE SCULPTURE of a young maiden, surprised by a butterfly that has alighted on her shoulder.

She stands on a natural base,her hair tied up; partially dressed in a robe (perhaps after a swim) and holding a flower in her right hand, whilst looking at the butterfly ~ an unexpected guest. Signed within the integral bronze and raised on a rouge marble base. 10ins (25cms) high overall.

***Jean Garnier (1853-1910): a French sculptor who specialised in figures and decorative vessels.
