Antique Lantern Wall Clock

18th century
Description

An English Lantern clock with the original anchor escapement. A silvered chapter ring with engraved dial centre signed 'Tho's Moore, Ipswich'. Well cast original spandrels. A 30 hour duration 'birdcage' mechanism, rope weight driven, striking the hours on a bell.

Thomas Moore of Ipswich is recorded in Loomes 'Watchmakers and Clockmakers of The World' book as working 1714 -1762. This is not to be confused with the 20th century copies !
