A lovely elegant oak longcase clock by Benjamin Lockwood of Swaffham, Norfolk. He is listed as working there in the second half of the 18th Cent. He was reputed to be apprenticed to Peter Hay of Clerkenwell, London. There is evidence of this in the design of the movement that is of typical London style having five pillars and a Strike/Silent selector to the arch.
The beautiful slim case has a long door with original lock and working key. The smart panelled base has a nicely shaped plinth (base possibly rebuilt). The hood has glazed side panels gilt capitals, a smart fretted cresting and 3 brass ball finials.
The good quality 8 day, 5 pillar movement strikes the hours on a bell. It has a subsidiary seconds dial, date indicator, silvered chapter ring and gilt spandrels.
The movement is in excellent working order, has recently been serviced and is keeping good time. The case is also in good condition and a nice original colour.
The maximum dimensions are:
234cm (92") high excluding finials, finials plus 15cm (6")
48cm (19") wide
25cm (10") deep
Free local delivery and set up (70mls), national and international delivery arranged at cost.
The movement is guaranteed for 12 months on the basis that it is returned to Watlington in the unlikely event of a claim.
