Rare 14", Bell Striking, Twin Fusee Drop Dial Wall Clock

19th century
Description

Twin fusee drop dial wall clocks are not found too often. Even rarer when they strike on a bell, and almost never seen when they have a 14" convex dial. This clock has them all.

The Regency period mahogany case has side opening doors on both sides and a key lockable door to the base. It has carved ears and a large glazed panel to the lower half through which the pendulum can be seen in operation.

The 14" dia. convex dial has black Roman numerals with beautifully cut hands and is signed "Saml. Birley. Birmingham." He is recorded as working in Birmingham between 1816-1851.

It has a heavy cast brass bezel and convex glass.

The 8 day twin-fusee movement strikes on a bell with a lovely crisp, resonating tone. It has just been fully overhauled by our BHI registered staff and carries our usual 12mths. parts and labour guarantee.

All cards accepted.
