Village in - Antique Oil Painting

1940 - 1960
Description

Oil on panel showing a view of a village and river in winter. The panel is signed by the Belgium artist Max Ernest Clart (London, 1916 - Marcinelle, 1995) The painting dates from around 1950 - 1955.

Clart was a student at the Academies of Charleroi (studied under L. Van den Houten) and Brussels where he studied under A. Bastien, A. Stevens and H. Van Haelen. He was also a Professor at the Industrial School of Marcinelle. He travelled in Africa, Italy, Egypt and France and was fascinated by the colour blue, he painted photo-realistic portraits, nudes, still life, marine and picturesque landscapes of Wallonia. Some of hes works have been acquired by the province of Hainaut and the towns of Charleroi and La Louvière.
