Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1860s.
I am assuming this only originally carried the envelopes as there is no room for cards .. it appears full and untouched.

There is concertinaed piece of blotting paper in a small compartment and what I like most is the original little glass glue pot, undamaged and retaining the original top and brush, this was used to glue the envelopes sealed.

The interior of the lid has the original cream silk and the leather is stamped with the London retailer's signature; Acton Griffith, 8 Baker St.
A wonderful box in lovely condition, alas no key. 5 3/4" x 3" x 4 1/4" tall.
