Rue des Fontenelles has dated this piece to the 1930s.
It dates from the early 20th century - circa 1920-1930 and has more recently been exhibited as part of an exhibition of the Centre d'Art de Rouge Cloiture.

Gaston Haustraete was a student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels. In 1899 he became a member of the artists' association Le Sillon, founded in 1893. He had his studio in the Troonstraat in Ixelles. He preferred to paint old villages/towns, streets and alleys in Brussels but also still lifes, landscapes, portraits and figures. He has works in several museums and is listed in 'Le Dictionnaire des Peintres Belges du XIVième' and Piron, The Belgian visual artists from the 19th and 20th century , Brussels, 1999.
