Finest Large Antique Austrian Brass Novelty Inkwell - Reading Owl C.1890

Description

This is the finest example of a figural Owl inkwell I have had. I have had smaller or simpler versions but this impressive one stands 8 1/2" tall and features a beautifully cast Owl reading a book.

The writing on the book appears to be in German which makes me think it was Austrian made or possibly English made for the continental market.

He retains his two original glass eyes. Once opened a fixed ceramic ink liner is revealed.

Late Victorian in era, dating to c.1890 it remains in superb condition. 5 1/2" in diameter x 8 1/2" tall.
