Early Victorian Mahogany Chest of Drawers

19th century
Description

A beautiful Victorian mahogany chest of drawers dating from the mid 19th Century. Excellent quality and very well made from solid mahogany with hand cut dovetail joints. The drawers all open well and it a clean sturdy set with all the original turned knobs. The bracket feet have been put on recently as a replacement for the old feet that likely got damaged or worn away. The bracket feet are in keeping with the chest and it is a nicely balanced piece.

It is in good condition for its age and displays beautifully. It has never been french polished so isn't extremely shiny. Instead it has been lightly waxed and polished and has a wonderful rich patina. The drawers are generally clean and tidy with a few small old stains but nothing detrimental. A piece of moulding on the bottom side has been partly replaced and repaired (see photo) and there are the usual small signs of wear and a few marks and small knocks but nothing detrimental or untoward.

The best description comes from the photos so please look at them all carefully and if you have any questions please ask.

Free local delivery within 10 miles of Ashburton and regular deliveries to London available for £60. Nationwide delivery available, please get in touch for an accurate quote.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
