Antique Longcase Clock

19th century
Description

A Leicestershire oak and mahogany longcase clock with a swan neck hood pediment. Fine quality marquetry inlays to the case. Turned hood columns and fluted trunk column sides. A vibrant dial with unusual decorations. A date aperture. A 30 hour mechanism of interesting design ( see close-up image 3 ) striking the hours on a bell.

The Deacon family of Clockmakers from Barton in The Beans are noted clockmakers. A museum showing his workshop and records is of interest. This example is likely to be Samuel around 1850. The mechanism frontplate is used from a longcase dial and the four 'feet' to the plates is an attractive and unusual design.
