Hingstons of Wilton has dated this piece to the 1870s.
This Victorian mahogany 4 door sideboard was made circa 1865 using dramatic flame veneers.
This sideboard is fitted 4 cupboard doors (hence the description name).
The pair of doors in the middle open to reveal a full storage area with a shelf. Above the cupboards are 3 drawers, the double width central drawer of serpentine shape, and with a single drawer to each side.

The expensive flame mahogany veneer was laid on a solid mahogany frame. When this was made, the material (flame mahogany) was an expensive commodity and so the planks of mahogany were cut into veneers. The process of cutting the veneer was simpler as the could use the new machinery now in place after the industrial revolution. The days of sawing the wood by hand in pits were past.

The top section with the drawers was made in one piece and so can be lifted off to make this easy to transport.
These sideboards are always popular as they have no wasted space and give tremendous storage opportunities.
