Victorian Oak Extending Dining Table & 3 Leaves, 10ft/seats 12

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: The Antique Furniture Company

A super Victorian extending dining table in golden quarter-sawn oak with three original leaves and dating to c.1870. The D-ended rectangular top with a double moulded edge and standing on four reeded and fluted turned legs with brass caps and ceramic castors. The Joseph Fitter ‘screw expander’ winding mechanism smoothly extends the table from just under 5ft to 10ft allowing it to seat 10 to 12 people with all three leaves inserted (any number of leaves can be added to give the required size). Sympathetically cleaned and repolished using traditional methods to give a good soft honey oak colour to the top, medullary rays from the quarter-sawn cut of the oak produce the attractive ‘tiger grain’ pattern to the top. It comes with a winder handle. The mechanism stamped ‘Joseph Fitter Patentee, Britannia Works, 210 Cheapside, Birmingham’ and with coat-of-arms.
