~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~
Two seated cherubs sit each side of an urn, draped with vines, celebrating the grape harvest in a tribute to Bacchus, the Roman god of wine and fertility. Porcelain has a blue ground and is delicately painted with cherubs to each side of the dial and floral swags to the corners and base.

The dial is porcelain enamel with blue lettering and separate minute ring. It is complete with it's original finely fretted gilt brass hands. The rear door is also glazed to allow the movement to be seen.

The French movement is of high quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. The backplate is signed for the retailer Popon of Paris. It is the earlier design of the Pendule de Paris movement with outside hammer spring. Pendulum is a replacement. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. We have a video clip available of the clock running.

Popon is listed in Tardy Dictionnaire Des Horlogers Francois as working at Rue Charlot, Paris in 1850 - 1860.
Condition of the case is excellent, the original gilding is beautifully clean and bright with some slight wear in places. The porcelain is also in excellent condition with only very slight wear to the over-glaze gilt decoration. The dial is also in excellent condition with no damage. The bezel has a hole to the left of the brocot shaft due to the bezel being moved round at some time so that it opens fully. There is a slight scratch on to the glass.
