Silver Snuff Box / Cheroot Holder Case Birmingham 1902

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Woodbridge Antiques

A superb, early Edwardian, solid silver box for Snuff or storing Cheroot Holders! Oblong in shape, and slightly convex either side, the box is simply highly polished silver with no engraving or embossing making it a very attractive item. It is hinged to one side and opens and closes nicely, with two slightly protruding sections for ease of opening (see images), and has a loop at the top for attachment. When opened the gilt washed interior is visible, as are clear hallmarks on the inside base for the Birmingham Assay Office with a date mark for 1902 and Lion Passant indicating sterling silver. The silver maker''s marks are also visible for the renowned Joseph Gloster. Partial hallmarks can also be seen on the underside of the lid. Feels lovely to hold in the hand!

Condition: A really fine Box in great antique collector''s condition. (The gilt wash is very slightly marked in places commensurate with age and is mentioned only for accuracy.)
