Antique English Sterling Silver Card Case - 1857

Description

A beautiful shaped visiting card case with engraved decoration and very fine engine-turned stripes down the centre.

The front also has a wonderful circular vacant cartouche framed by an engraved belt and buckle motif.

The hinge is in good working order and once opened reveals the full English hallmark for Birmingham 1857 together with the sought-after Queen Victoria's head duty mark. The makers initials are also present for the silversmith, Edward Smith.

A lovely early example in splendid condition (a fine surface scratch to the back, shown purely for accuracy). 3 7/8" x 2 3/4".
