This atmospheric painting shows the artist’s delight in what is now known as the

-
Records show he lived in many parts of Britain and also travelled widely abroad. In 1905 he was elected to full membership of the Royal Society of British Artists (RBA). He is recorded as living in Beer, Devon in the late 1890s.
-
He is known for his 1904 visit to China, this resulted in the publication, in 1909, of his book, "China, its Marvels and Mystery", which contained 40 illustrations taken from his paintings.
-
He exhibited widely including: The Paris Salon,
Royal Academy, RBA,
Royal Institute of Watercolour Painters,
Royal Institute of Oil Painters,
Fine Art Society, Royal Scottish Academy,
Royal Society of Artists Birmingham,
Manchester City Art Gallery,
Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts,

Walker Gallery London.
He was also a Member of the St Ives Art Club.
-
Painting is in good original condition. There is evidence that the artist touched in small areas at each corner of the painting. This may be because the atist worked on an unstretched canvas pinned to a board, probably out of doors in the field that we see. The canvas would have been mounted on a stretcher after its completion.
Frame is circa 1900 in good condition with cream pale blue paint and gilt.
