In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
The outer of the box is made of the finest quality rosewood and the edges have applied brass strips with a matching brass cartouche and escutcheon. Inside the box there is a fitted lift out tray revealing a lower section which is split into a few different compartments.
It is in good condition for its age and has been very well made and well looked after. There are some minor splits and general signs of age and use around the box, particularly one old bash on a back corner (see photo) but overall the piece displays beautifully. Internally the box is generally clean and tidy and it comes with its original key and lock which is in working order. It has been cleaned, waxed and the brass has been lightly polished and it is ready for use.
