The Port of Antwerp - Antique Oil Painting

1920 - 1940
Description

Attractive view of the port of Antwerp, Belgium by Andre Lynen (1888 - 1984) The oil on panel is signed by the artist and is mounted in a simple wooden gilt frame and slip. It dates from around 1940-1950.

André-Victor Lynen ( Antwerp , 4 December 1888 - Prince ( Brussels ), 29 July 1984 ) - Belgian school. .

Lynen was a figurative painter with a modern touch. He remained much more traditional in terms of aesthetic views: a realism with impressionistic influences. He had a strong preference for the sea, dunes, beach and harbors, there are also Scheldt views, portraits, figures, interiors, still lifes and cityscapes . A number of his works were shown in Switzerland in 1917 in the "Exposition des peintres du front belge".

In 1919 Lynen left for France. He lived in Versailles and also worked in Brittany: Cancale, Camaret, Concarneau as well as the Landes and on the South Coast. He became a member of the "Société du Salon d'Automne" in Paris and participated in the Salons. He exhibited regularly in Belgium between 1919 to 1967.

In 1927 Lynen came back to live in Belgium, first in La Hulpe and then Brussels. He again participated in the many salons in his own country and also exhibited in group exhibitions in Bergen, Copenhagen, Paris, Brazil and Japan.

In his own country he often worked in Ostend, in De Panne, along the Scheldt both above and below Antwerp. Brussels was also covered a lot: The Duden Park , a street in Forest in the snow,. He also undertook two trips to Norway, where his son-in-law did an internship for the company he worked for.

Lynen was co-founder of the "Société Belge des Peintres de la Mer" in 1932, an association that did not group all the leading Belgian traditional marine painters and exhibited them every three years in the Center for Fine Arts. The group was founded under the impetus of Henry Devos, director general of the Navy's administration.

Lynen has works in several museums including, Antwerp, Brussels, La Rochelle, Riems.
