Pair of Carved Oak and Leather Wing Chairs

1900 - 1920
Description

Pair of carved oak and leather wing chairs

This pair of carved oak and leather wing chairs were made circa 1910.

This pair of wing chairs are of a superb design, with scrolls to the wings and on the arms.

The wing chairs stand on carved oak bulbous supports and are joined by shaped stretchers.

We have upholstered these in fine leather, before being hand dyed by our own specialist craftsmen, and then our wonderful antique finish is applied.

The chairs have the brass studs around the edges, that are not only decorative but are also there to help secure the leather to the frame. Each stud is tapped in gently by hand, which is a very skilful and painstaking process.

Around the lower frame there is a double band of large and small studs, very much in the Elizabethan manner, which ties in with the carved bulbous legs.

Each chair has a cushion seat, and a sprung camel back.

When these superb chairs were made England would have been mourning the death of King Edward VII and looking forward to the succession of George V.

The original owners of these chairs may well of relaxed into these and read about the murderous exploits of Dr.Crippen, his trail and then his eventual execution.

The opening of Old Trafford football ground the home of Manchester United, with a capacity of 80,000, The first competitive game being against Liverpool and losing 2-3.

At this time Charles Rolls (Rolls of Rolls Royce) made the first non-stop crossing of the English channel, he was later that year to be the first British aviation casualty when his French built Wright aeroplane crashes during a contest over Bournemouth.

Imagine relaxing in this pair of wing chairs, and the enjoyment of the ownership of these will bring. No doubt your family and friends will be very keen to use them as well!!
