Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A clock garniture is a decorative three-piece set consisting of a central mantel clock flanked by a matching pair of decorative sidepieces, typically candelabras or urns. Popularised in 19th-century France, these sets were designed to create symmetry and balance on fireplace mantels.

Late 19th-century French clock sets commonly incorporated variegated marble or onyx bases, spelter or gilt bronze mounts, and hand-painted enamel dials. Sculptural elements often featured patinated spelter figures styled with classic Art Nouveau or academic motifs.

Authentic Japy Freres clock movements are typically stamped on the rear movement brass plate with a circular trademark seal containing the name Japy Freres et Cie alongside a grand prix award date, such as 1855, 1878, or 1889, alongside movement serial numbers.

Display the set together as a complete trio on a fireplace mantelpiece, sideboard top, or formal hallway console to serve as a focal anchor. To blend the period look into contemporary settings, pair the set with clean-lined artwork or minimalist wall mirrors.

Dust surfaces regularly using a soft, dry lint-free cloth or soft brush to prevent buildup in detailed casting. Avoid liquid cleaners or polish on gilded surfaces as abrasive treatments can remove or compromise the original gilding and patina.
