Large Engine Turned Sterling Silver Photograph Frame by Mappin & Webb

1900 - 1920
Sold by Puckerings
Description

A truly handsome and elegant large photograph frame retaining the original silk taffeta printed by the famous London silversmith, Mappin and Webb.

The Royal Warrant is printed above the logo, By Royal Appointment to Her Majesty the Queen. Mappin & Webb have been silversmiths to all of the United Kingdom’s sovereigns since 1897.

The sterling silver is beautifully decorated with highly prized engine-turned decoration, creating a clean elegant look for both a traditional and contemporary interior. The silver is fully hallmarked for London 1925, nearly 100 years old and it is signed by this illustrious maker.

The back has a solid Oak backing with a folding easel stand allowing the frame to be used in both a portrait and landscape configuration, the most highly sought-after type of stand.

Excellent condition with an overall measurement of 11" x 8 1/2" x 1" with a glazed aperture measuring 9 1/2" x 7 1/8"; a grand and impressive size.

Mappin & Webb is a truly English treasure, with more than 235 years of tradition and historical significance in the silver and jewellery world. Renowned for combining timeless craftsmanship with superior quality and contemporary design, we produce everything from exquisite jewellery to elegant silverware.

It is a story that began in 1775, when Jonathan Mappin opened a workshop in Sheffield with the mission to create the most beautifully crafted silverware for English high society. This vision saw the company expand internationally, receive Royal Warrants and commissions from monarchs around the world, and become synonymous with excellence, craftsmanship and all things truly English.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
