Mahogany Drum Table

1900 - 1920
Description

Mahogany drum table

This Mahogany drum table was made in the early part of the 20th century in a top workshop of the day.

The cabinetmaker selected and used fine mahogany of good grain and colour. He made the table using the best design from the late Georgian period, except making it in a smaller size that suited the clients of the day. Georgian examples of these tables are normally larger and so were not so suitable for the modern home.

This drum table is fitted 4 working drawers and 4 false drawers, each with the original brass swing handles.

The top with the leather inset working surface, with blind tooling around the edge and to the centre.

It stands on the classic gun barrel turned mahogany central column with the 4 splay legs off the column, before finishing with the brass paw toes and the castors under.

In the Georgian period drum tables were often called rent tables which were of a round or polygonal shape with small drawers often labelled with the days of the week and used for rent collecting from the tenants in the large country estates.

This table can be used in many places around the home, it can stand in the centre of a library, an office, a window bay or in the centre of a room of entrance hall.

107cms diameter (42ins)

76cms high (30ins)
