Description

Fabulous late 18th.c. French oak wardrobe or armoire c.1790. Two door cupboard fitted inside with a single shelf and hanging rail. Wide carved cornice over an exceptional decorative front. Carved frieze above the door at the centre of which sit a delightful pair of doves, symbolic of love and fidelity, surrounded by a laurel wreath suggesting this was originally a marriage piece. Shaped, raised and fielded panel doors with long brass escutcheon plates, carved detail and raised mouldings. Topped with an acanthus leaf spray in semi-relief and featuring a broad middle rail also carved with birds and flowers. Shaped feet and an unusual apron carved to resemble draped cloth. Oak panelled sides and back. Excellent colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops. Key supplied. Of pegged construction, could be disassembled for delivery.
