As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this Meiji Period 1868-1912 , circa 1890 , carved Boxwood Tonkotsu ( Tobacco container ) finely carved in the form of a Monkey , the artist has used his skills to carve a Wicker Basket in which sits a very comical Monkey, holding his Hands to his Ears as if to depict ''hear no evil '' , the cord running through the container houses an Ojime bead in the form of a Monkey covering his Eyes , presumably intended as ''See no evil'' , it would be likely that the missing Netsuke was carved in the form of a Monkey with Hands covering his Mouth , this still represents a high quality Meiji period carved Wood Tonkotsu and remarkably still retains its finely shredded Tobacco , artist signed in an oval cartouche to the underside , a fine addition to your Smoking related or Japanese Works of art collection .Condition Report : Fine original condition .Approximate Sizes :Height : 3'' 7.5 cmDepth : ...
