A fine quality early walnut longcase clock. A caddy hood pediment with fretwork and original gilded wooden finials. Brass capped hood front and rear quartered columns. Choice burr walnut veneers to the trunk door with a glass lenticle. An arched brass dial with silvered chapter ring and engraved birds to the dial centre. Herringbone engraved detailing to the name boss. Fine blued steel hands, date and seconds indicators. An 8-day duration, 5-pillar movement striking the hours on a bell. Brass cased weights.
Cornelius Herbert was made free of the Clockmakers Company in 1727 and worked from 1690.
