Large Antique Gilt Bronze Clock

19th century
Description

~ French - Circa 1890 ~

~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~

A large and stunning original antique French clock. It is beautifully made in gilt bronze in the Baroque style. It features mythical creatures to each side of the dial, dolphins in a stylised sea to the sides and a large urn to the top. Intricate Acanthus detail and paw feet.

The large dial is ornately cast in bronze and mounted with 12 individual shield shaped enamel cartouche letters.

The French movement is of high quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is a replacement. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a gong. We have a video clip of the clock running.

Raison & Thomas are listed in Tardy Dictionnaire Des Horologers as working in 1890.

Condition of the case is excellent, beautifully clean and bright with hardly any wear or discolouration and there are no losses. The dial is also in excellent condition with no damage to the cartouches.

Raison & Thomas mark on the movement backplate

Complete with pendulum and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
