Pair of 19thc Meissen Porcelain Figural Ewers

Fabulous pair of late 19th century Meissen figures of a lady and gentleman on naturalistic base, each seated on a mossy rock aside large open ewers. After the 18th century versions by Kändler, the figures are beautifully modelled with fine attention to detail and exquisitely decorated. The ewers have applied flowers, stems and leaves trailing around them. Underglaze crossed swords marks, c.1870, and gilt painted number 56 to both. The lady also has impressed model number 122 and incised number 1234 and the gentleman has impressed 127 and incised 907.

They measure: lady - 18.5cm high and 14cm by 10cm wide and gentleman - 18cm high and 13cm by 11cm wide. Condition is very good with just a couple of minor points to note: there has been some professional restoration to the very tips of the girl's fingers on her right hand and also to the tip of the lid of the gentleman's ewer. A few small nicks to the lady's base appear to have been very well redecorated and gilded. Some losses to the encrusted flowers around the ewers and a small firing line to the base of the lady's ewer.
