Quiet Street Antiques of Bath has dated this piece to the Regency era.
The many features include: * baluster gallery; * original tooled leather writing surface; * fitted interior with original braid & 2 small drawers; * large slides to both sides; * "secret" pen-and-ink drawer; * the two original wooden-topped ink bottles; *four long drawers; * original bracket feet .... and the whole top slides forward when in use.
Probably made circa 1825-1835, it measures 36ins high (maximum to top of the gallery); 20ins wide and 22ins deep.

Although not stamped (the majority of Gillows furniture was made to order, and therefore not stamped) this is signed by the actual cabinetmaker (Thomas Myers) under one small drawer. In "Gillows of Lancaster & London" by Susan Stuart, a very similar davenport is illustrated (Vol II, page 32) which is also signed by Thomas Myers.**
