C19th Pair of Decorated Box Stools with Black and Gilt Decoration

Description

Unusual C19th pair of decorated box stools with original black and gilt painted decoration; the padded rectangular seats/lids upholstered in old patterned carpert, opening to reveal and old paper lined storage compartment. The panelled sides inset with a stylish moulded geometrical design repeated on all sides, making them free standing. The base with a simple shaped mould, raised on ovoid shaped feet. Provenance: acquired from a substantial Cotswold country house.

English circa 1830

Good original condition. Can be reupholstered and gently cleaned and waxed if required.
