In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
The box is fully fitted with 6 bottles - 2 glass perfume bottles and 4 vanity pots with silver plated lids. There are sections covered with velvet lids and the main interior of the box lifts out to reveal further storage space beneath to sore items such as brushes or combs.
The lid of the box houses a small removable mirror and paper document rack behind the velvet interior. There is a brass rod which when pulled up releases a drawer in the bottom side of the box. The drawer is lined in blue velvet and generally used for storing jewellery.
It is in excellent condition for its age and has been very well made and well looked after. There are some minor splits and general signs of age and use around the box but overall the piece displays beautifully. There is a small tear in the paper document holder in the lid. Some of the silver plated lids
have small dents and dinks in them and there are some small chips and nibbles around the tops of the bottles (see photos) but nothing detrimental.
The box comes with its original key and lock which is in working order. The box has been lightly cleaned and the silver bottles polished and it is ready for use.
