We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Popularised during the 19th century, a Victorian mirror back credenza is a side cabinet featuring a low storage base topped with a decorative backboard fitted with a looking glass. These pieces were traditionally designed for dining rooms or drawing rooms to display fine tableware and reflect ambient room light.

Craftsmen typically utilised figured woods such as burr walnut, rosewood, or mahogany over a solid wood core, often incorporating white marble tops and silvered glass mirrors. Construction methods included hand-cut dovetail joints, carved fretwork, and French polishing to enhance the timber grain.

Authentic pieces display period construction indicators, such as mercury or early silvered glass foxing, hand-carved scroll motifs, and original brass lock mechanisms. Examining the rear reveals hand-sawn timber panels and natural shrinkage lines consistent with seasoned 19th-century wood.

Position the credenza as a main feature in a dining area, hallway, or living room against a contemporary neutral or deep painted wall. Pair the reflective glass and warm timber tones with understated modern ceramics or simple decorative items to balance the ornate carving.

Clean the walnut surfaces with a soft, dry cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish periodically to nourish the wood veneer. Use specialised stone cleaner for the marble top to prevent etching from liquids, and keep the cabinet away from direct heat sources to prevent wood movement.
