Fine German 935 Silver & Guilloche Enamel Box with Painted Flowers C.1920

A stunning continental silver dressing table box or stuff box, c.1920. The lid inlaid with guilloche enamel in concentric circles of purple in the centre, with ivory and then sky blue bands. A very fine band of white enamel runs around within the silver edge. The blue enamel continues around the wall of the box with 2 further sandwiched bands of white enamel above and below. The lid is exquisitely over-painted with an alternating band of pink roses and forget-me-nots linked with green stems and leaves and tiny scatterings of blue petals. Around and in the middle of the purple centre are set some gilt shaped and textured daisy flowers and leaves.

The inside of the box is gilded and the lid has full German hallmarks for 935 standard silver and maker initials GW or CW which whilst very clear I haven't been able to trace. The base has an import mark for Austria-Hungary.

It measures 7cm (2 3/4") wide and 2.2cm (7/8") high and weighs 110g / 3.5ozt. Condition is very good: there is one really tiny section of blue enamel lost right at the bottom of the side directly below the hinge and a 1mm dint to the edge of the silver beside the opening lip. No other losses, dents or damage. A couple of light marks inside, only light surface wear to the enamel.
