Andrew Cox Antiques has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
The scene is framed by a greek key border with leaf motifs to the four corners. The front hinges forwards to allow the belt to be tightened or undone. A charming pricked inscription 'Lillie, from George, Xmas 1887' is found to the underside of the front helping to date the buckle to the late Victorian period. Dimensions below.
