Silver Match Striker Chamberstick / Candlestick Birmingham 1908

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Woodbridge Antiques

A most impressive and unusual Edwardian silver chamberstick / candlestick. Unusual as the sconce is designed to act as a match striker. Beautifully designed, the wax pan is circular with a wavy-line edge. It has a circular handle sitting on one side. The central match striker sconce sits neatly in the centre slightly graduating from the base to a smaller diameter at the top which further enhances the lovely aesthetics of this piece. It sits nicely stable and is a good heavy gauge silver that feels nice to hold in the hand.

Very clear hallmarks are visible for the Birmingham Assay office with a date mark for 1908 and Lion Passant indicating the finest sterling silver. The maker''s marks are also very clear for Joseph Gloster.
