Pair of Scottish Bo'ness Pottery Recumbent Lions of Staffordshire Type

Description

A pair of Staffordshire type pottery recumbent lions dating from circa 1900, manufactured by the Bridgeness factory in Barrowstouness (known as Bo'ness) in Scotland, with painted features and glass eyes.

Although Victorian dogs and animals of this type are generally attributed to being of Staffordshire manufacture they were also produced in large numbers in the potteries of Bo'ness, Scotland - see www.bonesspottery.co.uk for an interesting history of pottery production in the area.

In excellent condition, with glass eyes and gilt highlights, no chips or restorations.
