A large 19th Century Scottish painted box, featuring an adzed finish decorated to the exterior of the box, a technique originating from an ancient Egyptian art.
At a later date, this box has been decorated with well executed hand-painted Scottish thistles, a highly decorative piece with an unusual design.
Both the interior lid and base of this box are lined with purple fabric, while the sides have been left exposed with the original wood.
The paintwork and frame of the box are in good condition, with no real signs of wear. Unfortunately, over the years the original key has been lost.
Width - 28cm
