Marylebone Antiques has dated this piece to the 1880s.
This chair was now surplus to his requirements. It's a great looking chair & very comfortable, due to the curved shape back & scooped out seat. One could even make it more comfortable by adding a loose seat cushion. It's a heavy well constructed piece & very solid looking too, with strong legs & cross stretchers between them. I can't work out if the wood is elm or oak & maybe it's a combination of both. I particularly like the shape of the back splats, the shaped out seat & the shape of the legs, which sit on brass casters.
