Description

This is a fine ebonised English balloon clock dating from the Georgian period made by Newman Peachy who worked from Dean Street London circa from 1749 until his death in 1802. This clock will date circa 1780
This earlier style of balloon clock is particularly pleasing in design , enhanced by the contrasting silvered and engraved 6.75 inch brass dial which is signed by the maker. The finely pierced steel hands are original
The pagoda shaped top is surmounted by a brass ball finial and has brass carrying handles on either side.
The clock stands on bracket feet joined by an arched brass band. In the centre is a very fine pieced and engraved sound frett.
The rear fretted door opens to reveal a substantial round double fusee movement with 5 knopped pillars and verge escapement and pull quarter repeating on 8 bells . The clock strikes the hours on a seperate bell. The backplate is elaborately engraved and signed by the maker. Please note the the movement is shown unrestored but this will be professionally serviced prior to sale by a member of the Worshipful company of clockmakers prior to sale.
It is very unusual to find a balloon clock with verge escapement due to the restricted swing width at the centre of the case
?This clock being is 21 1/2 inches tall . The width is 11 inches and the depth 7.
This clock is in excellent condition , the case having been restored by a master craftsman
Like all antiques there are the odd age related marks as can be expected on any item of this age but I am certain that the most discerning client will not be disappointed.
The dial can be resilvered and the brass polished at the buyers request . Personally I love the patination exactly as it is
?This is a genuine and original clock and I offer a full money back guarantee to this end.
Any potential clients are very welcome to view the clock prior to purchase (or pay on delivery)to ensure that they are satisfied with their purchase.
This clock is much nicer in the flesh and looks superb .
If the asking price is paid in full then I will deliver and set up the clock free of charge to the English mainland,Wales and the Scottish lowlands.I will also provide a 12 months guarantee under these circumstances. This is the same service that is provided by a high street retailer without the customer having to pay for the overheads
If a lesser off is accepted then this will be sold as a trade sale with the clock as described and with shipping costs the responsibility of the buyer.
I will ship this clock worldwide .
UK buyers are asked to use alternative means of payment to Pay Pal if at all possible.
