Gents Boxed 9ct Gold Watch from J W Benson, 1948

1920 - 1940
Description

A gents boxed 9ct gold wrist watch from J W Benson, 1948.

The watch has a Swiss hand-winding movement, signed J W Benson, which is working nicely.

The watch itself measures 29mm wide excluding the winding crown and 29mm high excluding the lugs, it would suit a man with a slimmer wrist or would work nicely as a lady's watch. The case is 9 carat gold and there are hallmarks inside the case back for Birmingham 1948. There is also a case maker's mark for Aaron Dennison (Dennison Watch Case Company) who supplied various watch manufacturers with cases, and also the J W Benson signature. The case is in good condition. The back of the watch has a long service inscription.

The lens is in good condition.

The signed dial dial has a little marking but overall acceptable for a 1940s piece.

A new leather strap has been fitted.

The watch comes in a vintage presentation box. It is tatty and the corners are held together with tape but still good to have.

All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
